Dome tent, Igloo, Igloo tent…

If you are reading this lines, you may not know its real name. Igloo tent, structural igloo, dome tent are just some of the names we use to look for a geodesic dome. This happens because of the lack of difusion of this concept, principally in Europe and Spain.

Its own name is geodesic dome and not domo tent, igloo tent or tent. Its main feature is being geodesic, that means being made by triangles, which form pentagons and hexagons, that lastly will become a sphere or a semisphere. As Bucky quoted, with a geodesic dome you can set up buildings or surfaces with less amount of material than in traditional architecture; a real paradigm change.

Call it dome tent, igloo tent, structural igloo or spherical tent is imprecise, because it has little to do with it, but its simple assembly and shared materials like PVC in some cases.
